What is a Job Coach ?

A job coach's role may be different for each person

A job coach can help you be successful at your job by helping you:
  • know the transportation routes to get to work on time
  • learn the company policies and procedures during orientation at a new job
  • know your break times
  • learn strategies, tools and tips for successful and safe performance of your job
  • build confidence and encourage you to do well
  • adjust to changes at work, such as new duties, new supervisor or new equipment
  • build a working relationship with you supervisor

The job coach is NOT your supervisor but a temporary aid to help you understand your responsibilities and rights in the workplace

  • Sometimes job coaches help from a distance in helping you role play how to get approval for holidays or to complete forms for workplace benefits.
  • You can use a job coach in the same way as a professional athlete or a movie star uses a coach to help them succeed
